South Coast - Narooma

On the edge of the sparkling Wagonga Inlet, Narooma is a seaside haven with delightful activities and unforgettable experiences — swimming, snorkelling or diving with a colony of fur seals on Montague Island. In the beautiful Eurobodalla region, Narooma is the perfect escape with plenty of accommodation choices.

Getting to Narooma is easy. The drive from Sydney along the spectacular NSW South Coast is five hours and from Canberra is three hours. A road trip from Melbourne is best split into several days. You can also fly from Sydney to Moruya Airport and rent a car for the short drive south to Narooma, on Australia’s Oyster Coast.

A range of tours will take you to Montague Island Nature Reserve, a haven for hundreds of fur seals, thousands of penguins and many bird species. You can spot humpback and southern right whales between May and November. The island is culturally significant to Yuin Aboriginal people, who call it Barunguba.

Along the Narooma coast are gorgeous beaches. Narooma Surf Beach is where you’ll find the splendid Glasshouse Rocks and Pillow Lava ancient rock formations. At the southern end of Handkerchief Beach is a pretty picnic area. The Narooma to Dalmeny cycling route is a fun way to see the magnificent shoreline.
