Northern Rivers - Kingscliff

Kingscliff is a popular beach holiday destination in The Tweed, in the Northern Rivers region on the far NSW North Coast. Enjoy beautiful beaches, delicious seafood, whale watching and fun water sports from fishing to surfing. You can even join a snorkelling tour and swim with green sea turtles.

The easy-going seaside town is a short drive south of Tweed Heads and the Gold Coast Airport. The drive north from Byron Bay is 50 minutes and southeast from Brisbane 80 minutes. Accommodation options range from beachside camping and caravanning in holiday parks to luxury spa resorts

Kingscliff Beach is a gorgeous stretch adjacent the town, at the southern end of sparkling Wommin Bay. The fine white sands curve seamlessly from the breakwater at Cudgen Headland in the south, where the pretty Cudgen Creek flows into the sea, to Dreamtime Beach at Fingal Head in the north.

For board riders, there are world-class beach breaks and the Cudgen reef creates a lovely right-hander. The Australian Longboard Surfing Open is held at Kingscliff every year, attracting surfers and spectators from far and wide for one of the biggest World Surf League longboard events in Australia.

With consistent waves, learning to surf is fun with In2surf Surf School, Salty Girls Surf School or Watersports Guru, which also offers kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, snorkelling tours and a special program for kids aged seven to 12. The snorkelling tour is to Cook Island Aquatic Reserve.

Another marvellous experience is cycling on the beaches and cycle paths along the spectacular coast between Fingal Head, Kingscliff and Pottsville. You can hire beach bicycles from Kingscliff Cycle Centre. Keep an eye out for dolphins and whales, especially from the vantage point of Fingal Head.

You’ll find tasty places to eat on Marine Parade and Bells Boulevard, including the beautifully renovated 1932 Kingscliff Beach Hotel and the acclaimed seafood restaurant Fins. Just south of Kingscliff are more top restaurants - Spice Den in Casuarina and Paper Daisy at Cabarita Beach.

Taste fresh regional produce and browse fashion and gifts at the Kingscliff Markets, held on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. Kids will be delighted with a visit to nearby Tropical Fruit World where there are rare exotic fruits, such as chocolate pudding fruit, and friendly kangaroos.
